There are several things to consider before shopping for personal air purifiers.  The prices can range from about $29 up to about $2,900 and higher, though the extremely high prices are typically reserved for commercial air purifiers.  You will need to consider why you want a personal air purifier.  Are you concerned about killing the bacteria, mold spores and viruses in your home or office?  Are you a smoker and want to clean the air in your home for better health for your family?  Perhaps you or someone in your family has allergies or asthma and you wish to clean the air to make it easier for them to breathe.

There are several brand names you should look at, some of which you have heard of and some you may not have.  Austin and Hunter are popular brands of personal air purifiers.  A company called Airwise makes a decent air cleaner.  Have you heard of these brands?  There are others you likely haven’t heard of, too.  But some brands you surely have heard of if you own a television.  Panasonic and Sharp companies also make air purifiers.

The best way to start your shopping for personal air purifiers is to go online and look for some reviews of the different brands and the options that they have.  Some brands and models are better for removing bacteria and mold spores while others are better at cleaning the smoke and odors from the air.  You will need to determine which brands and models of personal air purifiers are best for your needs and then compare those models.  This should save you quite a bit of time at the store because you will be informed and know what you are looking for.

Once you have compared the models and chosen the options you want you will need to determine a price range.  If you noticed while looking at the reviews, the higher priced models got better reviews based on several factors, but one is almost always dependability and durability.  It is a waste of money to buy a personal air purifier that is so cheap that it won’t last more than a month or two.

Some other things you will need to look at with personal air purifiers are the extended costs that are associated with them.  Take a look at the warranty and see what it covers.  How easy will it be to have it fixed or replaced if the air purifier breaks down after six months?

You should also find out how often the filters need to be replaced and the cost of the filters for the unit.  Do the math and find out what the cost will be for filters for a year.  If unit A needs the filter replaced monthly, and the filter costs $5, then you will spend $60 per year.  But if unit B only needs the filter replaced quarterly and the filter costs $12, then you will only spend $48 per year on filters.  Don’t assume that the filter with the lower cost will save you money.
